Trials Series

‘Trials’ series began during Laura’s residency with the British Ceramics Biennial in 2021, hosted at the former Spode Factory in Stoke-on-Trent. Using the residency to delve deeper into her passion for Stoke’s ceramic heritage, Laura began exploring the possibilities of the dramatic and elegant forms she has long admired. Stripping back the ornate decoration and reimagining the forms through Laura’s contemporary design aesthetic.

Each thrown piece is a unique ‘sketch’ in clay, carefully turned and refined to reveal the precise form. Working with stained and partially glazed porcelain, the contrast of the surfaces echo’s the meticulous material ‘Trials’ of Josiah Wedgwood. This collection is Laura’s pursuit for perfection in form and surface.
